In order to encourage new Research Fund donors to ThyCa; Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association, Inc., one of our members has generously offered to donate $10 for every donation made to ThyCa, regardless of the amount, for thyroid cancer research, up to a cumulative total of $1,000.

This is an anonymous and extremely generous offer that was made because many of us don’t have employers who match charitable donations. ThyCa began as a service organization, and we have expanded our efforts to fund research into thyroid cancer, something urgently needed and important to all of us.

Like other health-related organizations, we look to our community of members to help us in this effort. Each of us knows the trauma of the diagnosis, the complexities of treatment and testing, and the need for lifelong monitoring. We need to find answers to many unanswered questions! We need to help ourselves!

We need your help! Help make your $10 donation become $20. Help us turn
$1,000 into $2,000.

To donate, go to http://www.thyca.org/donations.htm. Please designate your contribution to this fundraising drive with “matching fund drive” in the check memo field.

If you have any questions, e-mail to thyca@thyca.org. Or for more information, visit the web site atwww.thyca.org. Thank you!

The 5th International Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Conference will take place October 11-13, 2002, at the Los Angeles Athletic Club, 431 West 7th Street, Los Angeles, California.

Sponsored by the national nonprofit organization ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association, Inc., this educational and supportive conference offers sessions for people newly diagnosed with thyroid cancer, survivors of many years, and their family members.

Twenty-seven prominent physicians involved in thyroid cancer care and research will headline the agenda. Representing the many specialties involved in thyroid cancer care, including endocrinology, surgery, pathology, and nuclear medicine, these physicians will address issues ranging from diagnosis and treatment to research advances and future trends in thyroid cancer care.

Over 50 sessions will offer information for people at all stages of testing, treatment, and followup for all types of thyroid cancer, including papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic, as well as the variants.

An informal, give-and-take format will give participants the chance for in-depth discussion of issues related to thyroid cancer care.

Workshops will also focus on coping with the emotional and practical impacts of thyroid cancer, self-care, well-being, health insurance and employment issues, as well as caregivers’ needs and the perspectives of long-term thyroid cancer survivors.
