Fourth Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Conference September 21-23, 2001, in Chevy Chase, Maryland Features 26 Physicians, Plus Other Specialists

An international conference for thyroid cancer survivors and their families will take place in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on September 21-23, 2001, to
highlight Thyroid Cancer Awareness Week.

The Fourth Annual Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Conference will be held at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, one mile
from Washington, D.C. The conference is sponsored by the nonprofit volunteer organization ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors™ Association, Inc.

The more than 60 speakers will include 26 physicians from Massachusetts General Hospital, Mayo Clinic, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in
Texas, National Institutes of Health, and many other leading institutions around the country. Sessions are designed for people at all stages of
testing and treatment, as well as long-term survivors and family members and caregivers. There will be sessions for people with each type of
thyroid cancer. Special sessions will cover pediatric thyroid cancer.

Topics will include research advances, testing and treatment, physician/patient communications, and coping with thyroid cancer’s emotional
impacts. Other topics will include insurance issues, fitness and nutrition, self-care for well-being, skills for coping, long-term survivors’
perspectives, and caregiver issues.
